An 80-plus-foot willow oak two blocks off downtown, a split limb hanging over a detached garage after a summer thunderstorm. Wes climbed it himself — this one was close enough to walk to from where he started at nineteen. Sectional takedown, each piece roped and lowered by a groundie, plywood over the garage roof the whole time. Nothing free-falls, especially not two blocks from home. The oak itself stayed; only the failed limb and a second one showing the same stress came out, and the tree's still shading that garage today.
